Reading in the Libraries
※ Everyone can read books in the libraries without registration.
◆ Registration
※ A library card is necessary to borrow the materials out of library.
The card will be issued after the registration by showing an ID to
certify your name and current address.
(e.g. ☆ Alien Registration Card, Student ID, etc.)
☆ to be changed to Residence (“zairyu”) Card in July 2012 !
※ The library card can be used at all Shibuya City Libraries.
※ You are required to notify us when you change your registered
Information (address or phone number).
◆ Borrowing Services
※ You can check out up to 10 books (including magazines) and
3 CDs or Cassette tapes at the counter of each library.
You can borrow them for up to 2 weeks.
※ You can extend the period of borrowed materials for another
2 weeks except those are on the hold list .
◆ Returning Procedures
※ Please bring back the borrowed books to the counter.
You don’t need to show your library card.
※ You can also return the books to the outside bookdrop (BOOK POST)
when the library is closed.
CDs and Cassette tapes are fragile, so please return directly to the
counter at the library .
◆Copying Services
※ Library materials can be photocopied with coin-operated photocopier.

※ You can search and reserve books, magazines and CDs of all
Shibuya City Libraries through our website .

◆ Reservation Services
※ If you cannot find materials you want, you may request then by filling
out a form and handing to the counter.
※ You can also reserve the library materials by using the computer
terminal of each library or through our Website .
※ When you reserve materials through either the terminal or our Website,
your library card number and password are needed. Your ☆temporal
password is your date of birth(e.g. 6th May 1970 →700506).
☆ can be changed to any other word.
※ When the reserved materials are available, we will e-mail to your
e-mail address.
◆ Materials at the Libraries
※ Foreign Books Corner
The Chuo Library has a Foreign Books Corner, primarily with books in
English.
There are novels, books on life and culture in Japan, and beautiful
illustrated volumes.
※ Children’s Books Corner
There are also children’s tales and picture books in English both at
the Chuo and the Komorebi-Owada Sasazuka-Kodomo Libraries .
※ CDs, Cassette tapes, Laser discs, DVDs
The Sasazuka and the Shibuya Libraries lend CDs and Cassette
tapes.
The Honmachi Library offers the enjoyment of films and music on
Laser discs and DVDs, (although it is available only within the
library ).
