This map is your guide to the original Estonian design in the public
space of Tallinn. Due to the practical nature of design, it is an everdisappearing art form. That’s why the focus has been set on the
contem­porary, recently emerged environments. The map points out
cafes and restaurants, shops and hotels, galleries, museums and
other locations where Estonian design can be found. Many happy
encounters!

meeting place and cafe offering sophisticated ambience, good company and
great food. Located on the border of
Kalamaja Boheem aims to be an active
connection between the surrounding
area and rest of the world, offering
suburban romance. This year the menu
will be widened and brand accessories
will be introduced to support the community identity of Kalamaja.

た。Chedi is a modern Asian kitchen in
Western context featuring a blending
of cool Nordic design with minimalistic
Asian clarity. The combination worked
so well that the restaurant won an
annual award from Estonian Association of Interior Architects in 2008 for
best Interior design. In the same
year Chedi also won a gastronomy
competition “Silver Spoon” as best new
restaurant.

います。The restaurant in the former
printing facility has been designed
by one of the country‘s most highly
regarded interior designers. It matches
Estonian modesty with a hint of luxury.
A few design curios and a large number
furniture pieces were specially created
for this restaurant.

is located in an old merchant‘s house
built in 1362. The luxurious interior still
contains a medieval atmosphere. The
hotel is a member of the prestigious
Design Hotels Group.

建築やデザインを展示しています。
建築家はインテリアデザインや家具
なども手掛けることが多く、建物など
だけではなく様々な分野に影響を与
えています。The Museum displays an
overview of Estonian architecture as
well as the work of designers, as often

施設があります。Rotermann Quarter
is a special place in central Tallinn. The
Quarter with its diverse, old historical
industry buildings and modern architecture (ab Kosmos) gathers together
many interesting companies dealing
with Estonian design. The Quarter
has its own children’s playground
(design Keha3), Loovala (creative area)
combining artists and designers from
different buildings, a lounge Oot-Oot,
promoting Estonian design and a
gallery showcasing Estonian art and
much more.

のギャラリーです。Hop is a non-profit
gallery displaying local and international modern, applied art and design
from new artists.

なアイスバーもこのホテル内にあ
ります。Many of the details - lamps,
pillows, textiles, etc. - were especially
designed for the interior. There is also
the notable ICE bar in the hotel.

LoovalaはRotermann Quarter’s

ています。Loovala (Creative area) is a
floor of different designers and artists,

second floor of one Rotermann Quarter’s house. It is an open studios system
which at the same time offers the
creation, planning, execution and sale
of art. In addition workshops are held
in an inspiring atmosphere tutored by
artists working at the Loovala studios.

いっぱいのアクアリウムやロビーに展
示されたお人形。
カフェでは少しお腹
がすいた時にちょうどよいお食事が
できます。The obviously child-friendly
interior can be described as playful. The
ceiling lights have the friendly faces of
the actors on them, a huge aquarium
forms one wall of the rest rooms, the
puppets are on display in the lobby. The
café is perfect for a quick snack.
伝統的なダンスにちなんで名付けら
れたこのレストランは、現代風にアレ
ンジされた伝統的なエストニアの内
装や食事を楽しめる場所です。

restaurant, named after a traditional
dance, is a modern version of local traditions which are highlighted both in
the design and in the food. The interior
design is dominated by heritage with
soft chairs, based on old prototypes, or
even stereotypes. The restaurant was
awarded the 2008 red dot award in
communication design category for its
visual identity.

年代のレトロさも出しています。This
restaurant used to be the Estonian firefighting museum. The interior design is
characterised by this, with photographs of fire fighting adorning the
walls. The restaurant‘s 70s retro feel is
showcased by round copper lampshades, curvy massive leather furniture
and velour covered toggle chairs.

applied art and design exhibitions from
the early 20th century to the present
day. The ground floor features rotating
exhibitions on local and international
applied art and design.

like Tõnis Vellama, Ilona Gurjanova,
Jan Graps, Pavel Sidorenko and Kaie
Pungas.

ています。This is a good example of a
former industrial building given a new
function. The cold production space
has become a comfortable restaurant.
Hands-on luxury adds to this feeling.
The interior designer has filled the
space with a symbiosis of modesty
and luxury, where brown and grey hues
prevail.

can be found at its most basic in the
restaurant.

をしています。30人以上のエストニア
のアーティストの作品を見て購入し
ていただけます。A gallery focusing on
modern jewellery, with sales and exhibition taking place in parallel. The works

and deals with enhancing fine skills
like embroidery, paper dolls, paper castles and origami. You can hire the place

Lühikese Jala Galerii is an established
business started in 1993, focused on
local applied-art. Today a lot of the
items can be categorised as design, but
the principle is the same: each item is
a one off or part of small edition. It‘s
the place to go if you are interested
in pieces by established artists and
designers.

れています。Interior textile designer
Eva-Liisa Kriis and fashion and jewellery artist Kristina Viirpalu combined
their expertise to create this salon
using modern methods still grounded
in old handicraft traditions. The salon
is special because the two designers
use only natural materials and they
only make a handful of each product.
Other Estonian designers work is also
on display.

by popular interior decorator Maile
Grünberg. Grünberg‘s was working in
the art-Deco style in the 1980s, when
the Toome Café was opened. This design
is quintessential Grünberg but is nonetheless, new, fresh, and cherished.

の賞を受賞しました。Trattoria La
Bottega is a restaurant in Tallinn’s Old
Town offering Italian home cooking.
The restaurant has preserved historical
details, but still has a Mediterranean
atmosphere. It is stocked to the top
with wine shelves and features
dark-stained ceiling and white walls.
Dense light chandeliers, squared
tablecloths complete the atmosphere.
The restaurant won an award in 2008
from Estonian Association of Interior
Architects for best historical interior.

is a craftsmen’s workshops and merchandising in a medieval atmosphere.
Visitors can watch artists practise
their craft in open studios for leather,
textile, patchwork, glass, jewellery, hat
and ceramic. The guild has been active
since 1995.
タータンチェックの壁紙やトビウオの
オブジェで装飾されたこの書店には
子供用の楕円形の閲覧室も設けてあ
ります。
トレンディなカフェは待ち合わ
せにぴったり。
お店の2階には幅広い
美術書のコレクション、映画や音楽の
ディスク、様々な言語の本もあります。
Far from being tweedy or stuffy, this
book store has Scotch-chequered walls,
flying fish, and an oval reading room
for children. The trendy café next to
the store is a perfect meeting point. On
the shop’s second floor is a wide choice
of art books, music and film discs and
foreign language publications.

the successor to the Tallinn Jewellery
Factory‘s outlet. The similar selection
of merchandise links the past to the
present. A number of the items from
earlier decades were designed by artists
who once worked at the Factory, including; jewellery, table silver and luxurious
silver dishes.
Estonian Academy of Artsには、

があります。On the temporary ground
of Estonian Academy of Arts is a little
shop, selling student creations. Choice
has individually designed pieces, serial
items and a selection of art books.
Bar Valli
1970年代に作られたこのバーは、
タリンで唯一当時そのままの状態で
残されているバーです。木製の店内
の中央には1970年代の典型的な
バーカウンターが配置されており、
その周りには足の長いバースツール
がカウンターを囲んでいます。小さ
い店内に残されたスペースに入るの
は後はノスタルジアだけ。Probably
the only bar in Tallinn with an interior
that has survived the times, It looks like
it is from the 1970s and it has stayed
more or less genuine. In the middle
of the wood-covered room stands a
typical bar-counter from the 1970s. A
row of the high bar stools surrounds
the counter. There isn‘t room for much
more here, except for nostalgia.

イントです。This re-design of an old
house into a modern hotel has created
a fashionable space for tourists and
Tallinners alike.

インを主とする中小企業が事務所を
置く中庭のある建物で、3階と4階を
合わせた1100㎡のスペースに23の
企業と50の作業場が入っています。
この快適で芸術的な環境の中でたく
さんのデザインが生まれています。

石職人や写真家でした。Loomeinkubaator (Creative incubator) is a series
of studios for small businesses in the
creative industries, providing jobs and
artistic in harmonious and comfortable state of the art surroundings.
Creative incubator is based in centrally
located courtyard building on the 3rd
and 4th floor. It has 1100m² space for
23 enterprises and up to 50 workplaces.
First comers are glass artists, jewellers
and photographers.

ットショップがあります。The Baltika
quarter draws together several long
standing and newer entities, making
it a very promising player in the world
of fashion, design and retail. At core, it
is a shopping area based on a modern
concept called “Fashion street”, which
gathers Estonian clothing brands, has
a studio for young glass artists, and
acts as a creative incubator for startup businesses, wishing to reduce risk
and be competitive. The quarter also
has eateries, coffee shops, flower shops
and other retail outlets.

業スタイルですが、幅広い品揃えを見
に繰り返しやってくるファンが増えて

collects good things in people‘s closets
and garages that someone else might
need. That people coming back time
and time again is an indication of its
success as is the expansion in selection
of goods. The shop has all sorts of
goods, providing a characteristic crosssection of the furnishings in Estonian
homes in the last few decades.

calls itself the first public culture
factory in Estonia; the idea is borrowed
from similar centres around Europe.
The goal is to create an inspirational
environment for the culture activities
and to fill the factory with content
from many disciplines to fit into the
surrounding city. The factory hosts
parties as well as jewellery shows and
the „free stage“ has been used by young
designers. The printing plant in the
factory offers relief printing service.

has gathered local fashion world’s
brands – Monton, Mosaic, Baltman and

and showcasing the vitality and genius
of the local clothing industries. The
old factory building’s atmosphere has
been carefully preserved and furnished
to reflect harmony between the old
and new.

このシナゴーグは以前の建物が
1944年に壊された後、
タリンで初
めてシナゴーグという用途の為に建
てられた建物です。以前のシナゴー
グに基づいたレプリカを再建すると
いう初期の考えを変更し、建築会社
「KOKO」
によってこのモダンな形
に生まれ変わりました。This is the
the first purpose built synagogue in
Tallinn. It was put up after the old one
was destroyed in 1944. Instead of the
initial idea to build a replica, a modern
solution was commissioned from the
architectural company KOKO.

カドリオルグ公園の横にある子供ミ
ュージアムは2009年にオープンし
ました。1937年にカドリオルグ児童
公園に建てられたこの建物は、2007
年に現在の建物への改装工事がは
じまるまで様々な用途に利用され
てきました。現在では子供たちが楽
しくそしてアクティブに遊べる場所
に生まれ変わり、乗り物や滑り台、
子供用キッチンなどが設置されてい
ます。The children’s museum next to
Kadriorg’s play ground was opened in
2009 in a much anticipated event. The
Kadriorg’s children’s park main building was originally built in 1937 and has
had several lives before the renovation
works began in 2007. Today the house
has an exciting and sporty adventure
playground feel, all kitted out with a
kitchen, slides, rides and expositions.

す。KuKu club is a legendary meeting
place for artists, actors and their ilk at
the cellar of the Art Hall. It opened in
1935 and in that time has had several
memorable makeovers. The present-day
look is a part of a design from the 1990s
but many changes have been made
since then.
