Dear Student,
Welcome to Living in America. This English conversation program began in
September 1976. Since then, more than 4,685 adults of many nations and faiths
have studied English and learned about American customs at Hitchcock
Presbyterian Church.
Classes meet on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30, from September to
June. Teachers are qualified volunteers from Hitchcock Church and the
community. There are 7 or 8 classes at different levels of proficiency in English.
Student liaisons help the teachers plan the program each year. We hope you will
feel free to make suggestions to any of the liaisons or teachers who are listed in
the back of this Handbook.
Please read this Handbook and become familiar with its contents. Some
important pages have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and
Spanish.
Please put your name in your Handbook and your Songbook. You may want to
write your teachers’ names in your Handbook also.

Living in America Information 2014–2015
Living in America is an English conversation program that meets Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30,
September to June, at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, Scarsdale, NY (914-723-3311). For more

Charges: New students pay a $30 registration fee. Returning students who have songbooks pay $25.
There is no charge for Living in America classes. Students buy their textbooks and pay for childcare if
they use it. Some financial help is available.
Volunteering is the basis of the Living in America program, which is staffed by volunteer teachers.
All students are asked to volunteer too, and doing so is their gift to Living in America. Students take
turns bringing snacks (see “Snacks” on next page), cleaning up the coffee table, and helping with
childcare to make this service available to those who need it.
Childcare is available on Thursdays for $20 for one child or $25 for 2 or more children in the same
family per morning. There is no charge to a mother when she volunteers for childcare or attends the
Cultural Arts Festival.
Placement Conversation: A teacher will talk with each student at registration. Hearing how students
speak English helps teachers decide which level of class suits them best.
Changing Classes: If a student finds her class too easy or too difficult, she may visit another class to
see if she wishes to change. Please get a Visitor’s Pass from Registration.
Your Attendance: If you are unable to come to Living in America for a period of time, please tell one
of your teachers and know that you are welcome to come back anytime during the year.
Special Events: In addition to practicing English and learning about American customs and holidays,
students participate in the following special events (all are on Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30 AM unless
indicated):
Christmas Party: Students and teachers join the Presbyterian Women of Hitchcock Church to
hear the Christmas story, sing carols, and share refreshments.
Cultural Arts Festival (on a Thursday morning in the Spring.): Students share their cultures with
each other and with members of the church and the community through food, exhibits, demonstrations and performances.
Coffees: Each class spends a morning at an American house, getting to know the hostess and her
way of life.
The Year-end Party takes place at the house of one of the teachers where a brunch buffet
prepared by the teachers is served.
Bible Presentation: A Bible written in a student’s native language is given to each newcomer
who wishes one..
Field Trips: Students visit places of local interest.
Union Japanese Church of Westchester (UJCW):
Sunday morning worship services in Japanese every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hancock Room
Book Club in English for mothers and small children on the 3rd Friday of the month 10:00-11:30 a.m. in
the Hancock Room
Soup Kitchen with Hitchcock Women Volunteers on the 3rd Tuesday 9-10:30 a.m. in the main kitchen

Parking: (See map on page 14.) Walk or car pool if possible. Park on Walworth Avenue or on Greenacres
Avenue above the church. On any street, park only with right wheels to the curb and not on the grass. The
Hitchcock parking lot is used by church staff and the nursery school. The parking lot is ONE WAY. Park
only between marked lines and NEVER in RESERVED spaces. Watch out for small children. Do not park
near the playground fence. Respect neighbors’ lawns when turning your car around.
Fire Exits and Fire Drills: Go outside by the route your teacher and the map on the classroom wall
indicate. Do not get children from childcare. Childcare instructors, volunteers, and church staff will take
children outside. One adult from each class meeting in the Hancock Room and the Library will go to the
childcare Toddler Room to help carry the children outside. Stay outside until told to re-enter the building.
Bathrooms (toilets): Bathrooms are located near the entrance to the lower Children’s House, at the back
of the lower Children’s House, next to the childcare Toddler Room and in the Bride’s Room at the back of
the sanctuary. Bathrooms are marked W (women), M (men) or Unisex on the maps on pages 12 and 13.
Telephone: For local calls, use the telephone in the kitchen.
Cancellation of Living in America Due to Bad Weather: Your teacher or classmate will email
or call you if Living in America is cancelled. This happens if Hitchcock nursery school and childcare are
closed or delayed, or if schools in Edgemont, Greenburgh (Hartsdale) or Scarsdale are closed or delayed
two hours or more. For information, you may log onto www.1039WFAS.com, www.AM1230WFAS.com
or watch cable channel 77 or Verizon channel 44 on your TV (in Scarsdale only). Please car pool after
snowstorms, since parking is limited.
Lost and Found: Valuable items such as keys, wallets, or pocketbooks are taken upstairs to the
Hitchcock Church office (914-723-3311). Other items are placed in the Living in America cabinet in the
lower Children’s House. Keep your pocketbook with you at all times.
Emergency First Aid: A first aid kit is located in the Church Office.
Events at the Church: You are always welcome to attend any event at Hitchcock Church or at any
other church – organ recital, concert, lecture, class, service.
Coffee Table: Special announcements and information on topics being discussed are placed on the coffee
table. Please read these. If there are many copies of an announcement, please take one or more.
Snacks: Students take turns bringing snacks (fruit, cookies, cake, traditional native foods) to go with
morning coffee and tea. Please volunteer your fair share by bringing a snack at least two times during the
year. You may sign up on the chart on the coffee table.
Other English-as-a-Second-Language Programs: Living in America keeps a notebook of
information about other ESL programs. Ask your teacher if you want to look at it.
Gifts: Living in America teachers enjoy volunteering to teach and ask that students not give them gifts.
Cards or thank-you notes are welcome. Students may contribute to a special Living in America fund used
for scholarships or for equipment to be used at Hitchcock.

Childcare Volunteer Information — For All Students, 2014–2015
ALL STUDENTS HELP WITH CHILDCARE
All students take turns helping the childcare teachers in order to make this babysitting service
available to those who need it. Each class sends volunteers to childcare several times during the year. In
addition, mothers who have children in childcare help out on the opening day of classes and may be asked
to help during the Christmas and Year-end parties.
A meeting for mothers who will use childcare is held between registration and the first class.
Each time a class has a turn volunteering for childcare, the class must decide in advance who the
volunteers will be. Any problems with childcare should be reported to someone at the childcare registration
desk or to a teacher.
On Thursday mornings, childcare registrars will:

Manage the childcare registration desk, 9:15 – 9:30 AM.
●
Collect the childcare fee for each child ($20 for one or $25 for 2 or more in the same family).
●
Assign volunteers to the Toddler Room and the 2’s Room.
●
Assign children to the appropriate childcare room.
1. Toddler Room for children approximately 6 months to 2 years.
2. The 2’s Room (backstage upstairs) for children over age 2.
Limit: 12 children in each room.
CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS
●
Arrive no later than 9:15 AM on the days you are working.
●
Go immediately to your assigned room to help. Volunteers are needed in the Toddler Room, and in
the 2’s Room. Childcare mothers may decide whether to volunteer in their child’s room or in the
other room.
●
If there is sufficient help in the room you are assigned to for the morning you will be excused by
the head teacher to attend your class.
●
Be a good helper and help clean up.

The Toddler Room
• Hold babies and soothe them to minimize their crying.
• Distract unhappy children with a toy or an activity.
The 2’s Room
• Assist in preparing the scheduled activities and in organizing the children.
• Take the children to the bathroom as needed.
(Let childcare teacher know you are leaving the room and with whom.)
• Explain directions to the children when they don’t understand the teacher’s English.
• Watch children constantly on the gym equipment.
CHILDCARE MOTHERS
• Register your child for childcare, 9:15-9:30 AM. Registration closes at 9:30, when Coming Together time
for students begins. Childcare is limited to the first 24 children; mothers who arrive after the limit has
been reached, may not put their children in childcare that day.
• Pay the childcare fee ($20 for one or $25 for 2 or more in the same family). (No charge for children
whose mothers are volunteering in childcare that day.) Some financial assistance is available. Please
speak with, call or email Diane Gismond (914-723-9286 or [email protected]) for further
information.
• Provide diapers and wipes for a change; bottle, pacifier, or sip cup for children in the Toddler Room,
shoes and socks if they are walking; outdoor play clothes for children in 2’s Room. Label each item and
knapsack with child’s name.
• Put a name on your child’s back and deliver your child to the assigned room.
• Introduce yourself to the childcare teacher in your child’s room.
• If you will be leaving the Hitchcock building during class time, please leave your cell phone number and
your name with the childcare teacher in your child's room.
• Stay at childcare until your child is happy or the childcare teacher suggests you leave.
Then go to class. If many mothers stay in childcare, there is too much commotion.
If your child cries a lot, you will be called.
• Snacks will be provided in each room, subject to discussion at the childcare Mothers meeting at the
beginning of the year.
• Pick up your child at 11:30 AM, and leave the childcare room promptly with your child after thanking the
childcare teacher and volunteers. (You must excuse yourself from class before 11:30 to get your child.)
Watch your child after pick-up, and be cautious of hazards.
• Hazards such as hot water pots, chalk boards and coat racks that can tip over, chairs to fall off of, and
doors that open to the street.

“生活在美國”活動簡介和注意事項 2014–2015
“生活在美國”是英語會話活動。時間爲每年的九月份到六月份，每週週四早上九點三十分至十一
點三十分，地點為紐約市 Scarsdale 的 Hitchcock Presbyterian 教會，電話 914-723-3311。如果需要詳

費用：新學生需繳納 30 元注册費。舊學生已有歌本的繳納 25 元。“生活在美國”的所有課程免
費。學生按需要支付教科書和育儿服務的費用。對有需要的人士，教堂提供適當援助。
志願性質：“生活在美國”是志願性質的活動，教師都是志願者。我們也要求所有的學生協助志願
服務，作為對活動的回報。學生們輪流帶上點心（關于點心的規定，請參閱下頁）和清理桌椅，並
協助育儿中心的服務。
育儿中心服務：時間為週四早上。每個小孩的收費為每次 20 元，同一家庭有兩個以上的小孩收費

特別活動：在提供英語會話練習和美國風俗節慶介紹之外，我們還在日常上課期間舉行以下特別活
動

聖誕派對： 師生一起參加“教會姐妹會”，聽聖經典故，唱詩歌和享用點心等等。
2.
文化藝術節： 時間為春季的某個週四上午。學生們，教會教友和社區人士透過以聚
餐，觀看展覽和表縯達到文化的交流。
3.
茶會：各個班級將獲邀至一戶美國人家中參與茶會，得以了解該家庭和美國人的生
活。
4.
歲末聚餐：到老師家中，分享老師們準備的自助午餐。
5.
聖經贈閱：各位新生將獲贈一本以學生母語譯成的聖經。
6.
郊遊： 安排學生到附近的景點參觀。
泊車規定：（請參閱第 14 頁的地圖）請盡可能步行或與他人共乘車輛。泊車地點為 Walworth
Avenue 或者 Greenacres Avenue。停泊時請確保車子右輪與路緣平行,但不要压到草坪。Hitchcock 教
堂的停車場爲教堂員工和託兒所專用。請註意，停車場是單行道。車停在劃綫之間。禁止停泊在預

留（Reserved）車位上。停車時請留意小童。請勿緊靠玩樂場圍欄泊車。車拐彎時請留意各戶人家

火警緊急出口和防火練習：如有火警發生，請按照教室墻上的地圖和教師的指示路綫迅速到室外安
全的地方。請勿赶至育儿中心接孩子。育儿中心的教師，志願者和教會員工會將孩子帶到室外安全
的地方。每班將派遣一名成年人到 Hancock Room 和圖書館集合，并到育儿中心嬰兒室把孩子抱到
室外安全的地方。請在室外等候，直到被告知一切安全之後再進入室內。
洗手間：洗手間分別位于底層兒童之家（lower Children's House）入口附近，兒童之家背面，育儿
中心嬰兒房旁邊和聖所后面的新娘化妝間內。在第十六頁的地圖上﹐標有 W 字母的為女士洗手

因天氣問題而取消活動：如果活動被取消，老師或同學將會致電通知妳。通常，當教堂日常課程
(Nursery School）和育儿中心關閉或推遲上課，或者在 Edgemont, Greenburgh (Hartsdale) 或
Scarsdale 地區的學校關閉或推遲兩個小時或以上授課的情況下，當日的“生活在美國”的活動會被

其他“英語非母語”的活動：“生活在美國”提供有關其他以“英語非母語”（ESL）為主題的活

謝師禮物：任教于“生活在美國”的老師都是義務性質，並不祈求學生送禮物。學生可以通過贈送

育儿中心誌願者註意事項（給所有學生參考）2014-2015
所有學生都必須協助育儿中心的工作
所有的學生應輪流協助育儿中心的教師照顧小孩。每人在一年內將有數次的機會按照班級的安排到
育儿中心提供協助。如果你需要育儿中心的服務并能在開學日幫忙照顧小孩，請同時在聖誕節和歲
末聚餐時提供協助。
在注册后和上第一節課之間，計劃使用育儿服務的家長們將會舉行一個會議。
每節課都要求有志願者到育儿中心輪值，輪值的人選事先由班級定出。如果在輪值的過程中有
疑問，該值班人員應向育儿中心注册處或教師報告。
每周四上午育儿中心的注册人員會：

早上九點十五分到九點三十分，管理注册台事宜。

收育儿費用 （一個孩子的費用是每次 20 元，同一個家庭有兩個以上孩子則每次
收費 25 元）。

分配志願者到嬰兒房和幼儿房。

分配孩子到合適的房間。

嬰兒房適合六個月至兩歲之間的孩子使用

樓上的幼儿房適合兩歲以上的孩子使用

育儿中心志願者注意事項：


請于輪值當日的上午九點十五分之前到達育儿中心。


請積極地協助照顧孩子和清潔的工作。
請直接到指派的嬰兒房或者幼兒房。如果當日你有孩子在育儿中心，你可以選擇和自己的孩子
留在同一個房間。
嬰兒房工作



把嬰兒抱在懷中和安撫以减少哭叫。
用玩具或動作轉移情緒不安的嬰兒的注意力。
幼兒房工作




爲計劃好的活動作準備，組織好孩子們。
帯小孩上厠所前請通知育儿中心的教師。
當孩子們听不懂教師說的英語指令時爲孩子們做翻譯。
孩子們使用體育器材時要多加留意。
使用育儿服務的家長注意事項：


請在上午九點十五分到九點三十分之間帯孩子到育儿中心登記和交費。登記于九點三十分結
束，同時間學員需集合上課。育儿中心的名額爲 24 人，遲來的孩子將得不到當日的托管服務。
每個小孩的托管費用是每次 20 元，同一個家庭有兩個以上的小孩收費爲 25 元。當日在育儿中
心值班的家長無需付托管費用。如你需要财政资助，请和 Diane Gismond 联系，联系电话

每個育儿房間都提供點心小吃，具體情况根據學年初需要育儿服務的家長開會决定。
請在早上十一點三十分到育儿中心接小孩，并在對育儿教師和志願者致謝后迅速離開 (你需要

リビング・イン・アメリカとは、アメリカで生活する外国人のための英会話クラスで、ニューヨーク
州スカースデールのヒッチコック・プレスビテリアン教会（914-723-3311）にて 9 月から 6 月までの毎
週 木 曜 日 、 朝 9:30 ～ 11:30 に 開 催 さ れ て い ま す 。 詳 細 は 廣 島 都 留 さ ん （ 914-761-7468 or

費用：新しく登録される方は 30 ドル、既に登録済みでソングブックをお持ちの方は 25 ドルです。また教科書代

ィアへの参加がリビング・イン・アメリカへのお礼となります。生徒は交代でスナック（次ページの“スナッ
ク”の項参照）を持ち寄ったり、コーヒーテーブルを片付けたり、子供を連れてくる生徒のためのチャイルドケ
アを手伝います。
チャイルドケア：リビング・イン・アメリカに出席する木曜日の午前中はお子様を２０ドルでお預か
りします。２人以上の場合は一家族につき２５ドルになります。チャイルドケア・ボランティアをす
る日、カルチュアル・アート・フェスティバルの日は無料です。
クラス分け：登録時に先生が一人一人と話をして、どのクラスにするかを決めます。
クラスの変更：もしクラスのレベルが自分にとって簡単すぎる、または難しすぎる場合には、試しに他のクラス
に参加してみて、そのクラスが自分のレベルに合っていると思えば変更できます。他のクラスに参加してみたい
場合は受付でパスを貰って下さい。
長期欠席の場合：リビング・イン・アメリカを長期欠席する場合は、先生にその旨を話してください。再び戻っ
てくる場合には LIVING IN AMERICA はいつでも喜んで迎えます。
各種の催し：英語やアメリカの慣習、休日行事について学ぶ授業のほかに、生徒は次のような催しに参加します。
（特に記したもの以外は木曜日の 9:30～11:30 に行われます）。

ｸﾘｽﾏｽ･ﾊﾟｰﾃｲｰ：先生、生徒、ﾋｯﾁｺｯｸ･ﾌﾟﾚｽﾋﾞﾃﾘｱﾝ･ｳｨﾒﾝ（協会員女性の集まり）が一緒になって、クリスマス
についてのお話を聞いたり、クリスマス・キャロルを歌ったり、先生が用意する軽食をいただいたりします。
ｶﾙﾁｭﾗﾙ･ｱｰﾄ･ﾌｪｽﾃｲﾊﾞﾙ：（春のいずれかの土曜日の午後）：生徒が、生徒同士、教会のメンバーや地域の
方々に母国の文化を紹介する催しです。お料理や展示、舞台発表の形で文化を紹介します。
コーヒー：クラスごとにアメリカ人のお宅に伺ってお茶をご馳走になります。アメリカ人の実際の生活を知
るとてもよい機会です。
イヤー・エンド・パーティ：どなたかお一人の先生宅にて開かれ、先生方が用意してくださったビュッフェ
スタイルのお食事をいただきながら、おしゃべりをして楽しみます。
バイブル・プレゼンテーション：新しい生徒の方には、その方の母国語で書かれた聖書がプレゼントされま
す。
フィールド・トリップ：近くのみどころに、見学に出かけます。
ユニオン日本語教会での活動（ヒッチコック・プレスビテリアン教会内）(UJCW)：
日本語による礼拝： 毎週日曜朝、午前１０：３０からハンコック・ルームにて
母と子のための「絵本の会」：第３金曜日午前１０：００～１１：３０、ハンコック・ルームにて。
スープ・キッチン（ヒッチコック教会のボランティアの婦人たちと共に）：第３火曜日、午前９：００ユニ

駐車：（P.14 の地図参照）できるだけ友人と車を乗り合わせたり、歩いたりして来てください。ヒッ
チコックの駐車場は教会のスタッフや幼稚園関係の方が使いますので、なるべく教会前の Walworth
Ave か Greenacres Ave に駐車して下さい。教会の駐車場は一方通行で、ひいてある線の間にだけ駐車
できます。、“RESERVED”と書かれた場所には絶対に駐車しないで下さい。また、どの道でも、右タ
イヤが歩道に接するように駐車しなければなりません。小さな子供がいないかご注意ください。また、
方向転換をするときは近所の方の芝生を踏まないようにしてください。

非常口と火災訓練：担当の先生の指示と教室に貼ってある地図に従って外に出てください。子供達は
チャイルドケアのスタッフ、ボランティアの人や教会の方が外へ連れ出しますので、チャイルドケア
の部屋にお子さんを迎えに行かないでください。ハンコック・ルームとライブラリで授業を行ってい
るクラスは、各クラス一名ずつチャイルドケアの ２‘ｓ ルームに行って子供達を外へ連れ出すの
を手伝ってください。再び入ってよいと指示されるまで外にいてください。

お手洗い：はじめにみんなが集まる Lower Children’s House の入り口階段の両わきと部屋の左後方、チ
ャイルドケア ２‘ｓ ルームの隣、サンクチュアリ後ろの the Bride’s Room にあります。P.12～
P.13 の地図には“W”（女性用）と“M”（男性用）のマークで示されています。

電話：ローカル・コールについては、台所の電話を使用できます。

リビング・イン・アメリカが悪天候のため、お休みとなる日：リビング・イン・アメリカのクラスが
お休みとなる時は、担当の先生から連絡網が回ります。これはヒッチコック教会のナーサリースクー
ル、とチャイルドケアが休校または、遅延、あるいは、エッジモント、グリンバーグ、スカースデー
ルの学校が、休校または 2 時間以上の遅延となった場合です。これらの情報は、ラジオの WFAS 局
（1230AM）やケーブルテレビのチャンネル 77（スカースデールのみ）、または www.1039WFAS.com 、
www.AM1230WFAS.com などで確認できます。大雪の後は駐車スペースに限りがあるので、なるべく
友人と乗り合わせて来てください。

落し物：鍵、お財布、ハンドバックなどの貴重品は、二階のヒッチコック教会事務所（914-7233311）にお問い合わせください。その他のものは Lower Children’s House にあるリビング・イン・ア

救急箱：救急箱は教会オフィスにあります。

教会での行事：ヒッチコック教会や他の教会のオルガン・リサイタル、コンサート、講演会、勉強会
や礼拝などの催しにはご自由に参加してください。

コーヒーテーブル：いろいろなお知らせやその日の話題についてなどのプリントが、コーヒーテーブ
ルの上に置いてありますのでお読みください。お知らせのコピーがたくさんある場合はご自由にお取
りください。

スナック：生徒の方にはモーニング・コーヒー＆ティーのためのスナック（クッキー・ケーキ・フル
ーツや日本の伝統料理など）を順番で持ってきていただきます。全員が公平に分担できるよう、少な
くとも年に２回はボランティアをお願いいたします。コーヒーテーブルの上においてあります表に、
持ってこられる日を選んでサインアップしてください。

他の英会話コース：リビング・イン・アメリカでは他の英会話（ESL）コースに関する資料をファイル
しています。ご覧になりたい方は担任の先生にお申し出ください。

贈り物：リビング・イン・アメリカの先生はボランティアで教えることを喜びとしているので、品物
でお礼をしないよう、お願いしています。お礼の気持ちは言葉やお手紙でお伝えください。ヒッチコ
ック教会で使う備品やスカラシップのためのリビング・イン・アメリカの特別基金への献金はしても

チャイルドケア・ボランティアについて・・・生徒全員へのお知らせ

生徒全員
子供を預ける必要がある人のために、チャイルドケアサービスを提供できるよう、生徒全員で順番にチャ
イルドケアスタッフのお手伝いをします。それぞれのクラスに年数回、ボランティア当番が回ってきます。
さらに、子供を預けているお母さん方には、オープニングの日にチャイルドケアのお手伝いをお願いしま
す。また、クリスマス・パーティやイヤー・エンド・パーティにもお手伝いをお願いすることがあります。
チャイルドケアを利用されるお母さん方は、登録してからクラス開始までに開かれるミーティングに参加
してください。
自分のクラスにチャイルドケアのボランティア当番が回ってきたら、その都度、誰がボランティ
アをするかを前もって決めていただきます。チャイルドケアに関してなにか問題がありましたら、
チャイルドケアの受付スタッフか先生までご相談ください。
木曜の朝、チャイルドケアの受付では：

9:15 から 9:30 まで、チャイルドケアの受付をします。

チャイルドケア料金をお預かりします。（お子様一人＄２０、二人以上の場合は一家族＄２５）

9:15～9:30 の間に来て受付をすませるようにしてください。プログラムが始まる 9:30 には
受付を終了します。チャイルドケアは先着 24 名までしか子供を預かれません。その後にき
た方は、その日はチャイルドケアのサービスを受けられません。

受付でチャイルドケア料金（お子様一人 20 ドル、二人以上は一家庭 25 ドル）を払ってくだ
さい。お釣りのないようお願いします。（ご自分がボランティアをされる日は無料です）料

取り替え用のおむつ、おむつふきは用意されています。トドラー・ルームの子供には哺乳
瓶・おしゃぶり・トレーニングカップを持たせ、歩き出した子供には靴や靴下を持たせてく
ださい。２’ｓルームの子供には外遊びのできるような洋服を用意してください。子供の名前
をナップサックだけでなく、すべてのものにつけてください。

名前を子供の背中に貼り、年齢にあった部屋に連れて行ってください。

スタッフの方に自己紹介と挨拶をしてください。

もしクラスが行なわれている時間帯に教会の建物以外の場所に行く場合は、お子さんを預け
るチャイルドケア・ルームのスタッフにお名前と携帯電話の番号を知らせてからお出かけく
ださい。

子供が落ち着くまで、またはチャイルドケアのスタッフからクラスへ行くよう言われるまで
部屋にいてください。あまり大勢のお母さんが部屋にいると、かえって子供が落ち着きませ
ん。子供がどうしても泣きやまない場合は呼び出されます。

おやつは年度初めのチャイルドケア・マザーズミーティングで承認された後、各部屋毎に用
意されます。

必ず 11:30 に子供をピックアップして、チャイルドケアのスタッフやボランティアの方にお
礼を言った後、すぐに子供を連れて部屋を出るようにしてください（たとえクラスの途中で
も、11:30 には子供を迎えにいけるように早退してください）。ピックアップ後は、各自、
子供から目を離さず、危険物に注意してください（熱湯入りのポット、黒板やコートかけが
倒れてこないか、椅子から落ちたり、道路に面しているドアを開けたりしないか）。
● 外では車の近くは危険ですのでお子さんから目を離さないでください。

“리빙인 아메리카”는 영어가 모국어가 아닌 분들이 영어회화 연습을 하는 프로그램이며 9 월 부터 6 월
사이에 매주 목요일 오전 9 시 30 분 부터 11 시 30 분 까지 스카스데일에 위치한 “히치코크” 장로교회
(Hitchcock Presbyterian Church)에서 모임이 있습니다. 문의는 “다이앤 기스몬드” (Diane Gismond) (914-7239286) 나 박 혜경 (914-686-3545) 에게 하십시오.
자원한 선생님들이 이끌어가는 리빙인 아매리카 프로그램은 봉사정신에 그 기초를 둡니다. 그래서, 학생
여러분께서도 자진해서 도와주시길 부탁드립니다. 돌아가면서 간식도 준비해주시고, 아이를 봐주는
써비스가 필요한 분들을 위해서 “차일드케어” (childcare)에서 돕기도 해야합니다.
비용: 새 학생의 등록금은 $25 입니다. 노래책을 이미 갖고 계신 복학생의 등록금은 $20 입니다. 모든 책값,
그리고 차일드케어를 이용하실때의 사용료는 따로 부담해야 합니다. 그외에는 리빙인 아메리카에 드는
비용은 없습니다. 필요하신 분께 는 약간 의 재정 지원 도 가능 합니다.

들음으로써 여러분들을 8 개의 반중에서 가장 적절한 반에 안배할 수가 있습니다.
학급 변경: 여러분들 중에 학급이 너무 쉽거나 또는 너무 어려워서 바꾸기를 원하시면 다른반을 방문해
보셔도 됩니다. 방문하시는날 등록 하는곳 에서 Visitor Pass 를 받으 십시요..
출석: 리빙인 아메리카에 당분간 못오실 경우에는 여러분의 선생님이나 등록하는 곳에 계신분에게 꼭

특별행사: 영어회화와 미국의 관습, 국경일에 대해서 배울뿐만 아니라 아래와 같은 특별행사에도

크리스마스파티: 선생님과 여러분들은 히치코크 여자 성도회 교인들과 함께 크리스마스 이야기도

문화예술제 (봄의 어느 목요일 오전 ): 여러분들의 고유 문화를 학생들 서로간, 그리고 교회의
성도들과 이곳 동네 사람들에게 음식, 전시, 공연들을 통해 소개합니다.
커피: 각반은 어느하루 어느 미국인의 집을 방문하여 오전에 시간을 같이 보내면서 초청해준
그집의 여주인과, 그의 생활양식을 알게됩니다.
연말파티는 선생님들 중의 한분의 집에서 하게되며 선생님들이 준비한 브런치 부페를 즐기게
됩니다.
성서증정: 처음 나온 학생은 모국어로 쓰여진 성경책을 받게됩니다.

스낵: 학생들은 커피나 차와 함께할 스낵 (과일, 과자, 케익, 또는 전통적 고국의 음식) 을 돌아 가면서
가져오셔야 합니다. 일년에 두번 정도 스낵을 가져오시게 될 것입니다. 커피테이블 위에 있는 챠트에 자신의

차일드케어 자원봉사에 대한 안내 – 모든 학생여러분 에게, 2014-2015
모든 학생이 도와야 하는 차일드케어
아이들을 봐주는 써비스가 필요한 분들을 위해 여러분 모두가 돌아가면서 차일드케어에서 도와야합니다.
각반은 일년에 여러번 봉사자를 차일드케어에 보내야합니다. 그리고, 차일드케어에 아이를 맡기시는
어머니들은 수업이 시작하는 날과 크리스마스와 연말 파티 때에 차일드케어에서 도우셔야합니다.
차일드케어를 사용하실 어머니들의 모임이 등록일과 첫수업 사이에 있을 것입니다.
차일드케어에서 봉사를 할때마다 각반은 누가 봉사를 할 것인지를 미리 결정해야합니다. 차일드케어에서
일어나는 어떠한 문제도 차일드케어 등록 데스크에 있는 사람이나 또는 선생님에게 보고해야합니다.
매주 목요일 아침, 차일드케어 등록 책임자는 다음과 같은 일들을 할 것입니다:

봉사를 하는 날에는 오전 9 시 15 분 까지 오셔야합니다.

The 2’s Room (두살 어린이 반)
 아이들이 할 놀이 준비와 아이들의 조를 짜는 일을 도와주십시요.
 아이들이 화장실을 갈 때에 데리고 가주십시요. (플레에케어 담당 선생님에게 어느 아이를
화장실에 데리고 간다고 알려주십시요.)
 아이들이 차일드케어 선생님의 말을 못알아 들으면 설명을 해주십시요.
 운동기구를 갖고 노는 아이에게서는 잠시도 눈을 떼지 말아주십시요.
차일드케어를 이용하시는 어머니

9 시 15 분에서 9 시 30 분 사이에 아이를 차일드케어 등록시켜주십시요. “Coming Together” 시간이
시작되는 9 시 30 분에 등록이 끝납니다. 먼저 오는 24 명만 등록을 받으며 그 이상 은 아이를 못
맡기시게 됩니다.

차일드케어 사용료 $20 (아이가 두명이상이면 $25) 를 내십시요.. (차일드케어에서 봉사하시는 날은
사용료를 내실 필요가 없습니다.) 필요하신분에게는 약간의 금전적 지원도 가능합니다. Diane Gismond 에게

이 모든 것과 가방에 아이들의 이름을 명기하여 주십시요. Toddler Room 의 아이들을 위해서는
기저귀, WIPES, 우유병, Pacifier, Sip Cup 등을 준비하여 주시고, 아이들이 걸으면 신발과 양말을
준비하여 주십시요.; 2’s Room 의 아이들을 위해서는 밖에서 놀때 입을 수 있는 옷을 준비하여
주십시요.

명찰을 아이의 등뒤에 달아주시고 아이를 안배된 방에까지 데려다주십시요.

아이를 맡아줄 플레어케어 방의 담당 선생님에게 자신을 소개하십시요.

만약 아이를 맡기신 후에 교회 외부로 나가실 경우에는 반드시 차일드케어 선생님 에게 어머니 의
성함과 핸드폰 번호를 알리고 나가십시요..

아이가 편안해 할 때 까지 또는 차일드케어 선생님이 말씀하실 때 까지 차일드케어에 계시다가 교실로
가주십시요. 너무 많은 어머니가 차일드케어 방에 있으면 아이들이 소란을 더 피웁니다. 아이가 울면
수업도중에 호출이 될지도 모릅니다.

각방에 스낵이 공급될 것이며 스낵에 대해서는 학기초에 있을 차일드케어 어머니들의 모임에서 결정할

수도 있는 칠판과 코트걸이, 넘어질 수 있는 의자들, 출입문 등등.

LIVING IN AMERICA INFORMATION IN SPANISH 2014–2015
“LIVING IN AMERICA” (LA VIDA EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS) Es un programa de conversación
en inglés. Tiene lugar los jueves por la mañana de 9:30 a 11:30 de septiembre a junio, en la iglesia
presbiteriana de Hitchcock en Scarsdale. (914 723-3311). Para mayor información comuníquese con Diane

COSTO: Los nuevos estudiantes pagan $30 de inscripción, también pagan por sus textos y por la
Guardería si la utilizan. Los estudiantes que regresan y tienen el libro de canciones pagan $25. Nuestro
programa “LIVING IN AMERICA” es gratis. Alguna financiación está a su disposición si la necesita.
TRABAJO VOLUNTARIO: Forma la base de éste programa y se aplica igualmente a los maestros que a
los alumnos siendo éste su regalo a “LIVING IN AMERICA”. Se pide a los estudiantes que se turnen en
traer bocadillos, que recojan la mesa y que ayuden en la Guardería (Childcare) para así poder prestar este
servicio a quien lo necesite.
LA GUARDERIA (Childcare): Está disponible los jueves a un costo de $20 cada mañana por cada niño o
$25 por familia si son dos niños o más. Es gratuito para las madres que ayudan como voluntarias en la
Guardería o para quienes asisten al Festival de las Artes Culturales.
CAMBIO DE CLASE: Si una alumna encuentra que su clase es demasiado fácil o difícil, puede visitar
otra clase para ver si desea cambiarse. Por favor obtenga un pase de visitante en la oficina de Registro.
ASISTENCIA: Si no puede asistir a “Living in America” por un período de tiempo por favor informe a
uno de sus profesores y sepa que puede volver a cualquier momento durante el año.
ENTREVISTA: Al inscribirse se tiene una corta entrevista con el maestro en inglés. De esta manera se
puede determinar en cual de las clases se siente mas cómoda.
Además de practicar conversación en inglés y de enterarse de las costumbres y días festivos
americanos, los estudiantes participarán en las siguientes fiestas (todas son celebradas los jueves de
9:30 a 11:30 a no ser indicado de otra manera):
NAVIDAD: Los estudiantes y profesores se reunirán con las Mujeres Presbiterianas de la Iglesia
Hitchcock para escuchar la historia de Navidad, para cantar villancicos y compartir refrescos.
FESTIVAL DE ARTES CULTURALES: (Un jueves por la mañana en la primavera). Los estudiantes
presentarán sus costumbres culturales a los miembros de la iglesia y de la comunidad a través de comidas
típicas, exposiciones, demostraciones y actuaciones.
TERTULIAS: Cada clase visitará una mañana la casa de un miembro de la iglesia para conocer a su
anfitriona y enterarse de su manera de vivir.
FIESTA DE FIN DE AÑO: Tiene lugar en la casa de uno de los profesores quien se encargará de preparar
y servir un ligero almuerzo.
DONACION DE BIBLIAS: Cada nuevo estudiante recibirá una Biblia en su idioma nativo.
EXCURSIONES: Los estudiantes visitarán lugares de interés local.

REGALOS: Los profesores no aceptan regalos pero sí tarjetas o notas de agradecimiento. Los alumnos si
quieren pueden contribuir al fondo de “Living in America” el cual se utiliza para becas y para equipos
necesarios en Hitchcock.
PARQUEO: (Consulte el mapa en la página 14). Si es posible venga a pié o júntese en un solo carro. El
parqueadero de Hitchcock está reservado para los empleados. Estacione su carro en las avenidas Walworth
o Greenacres. Tenga cuidado con los niños pequeños. No se estacione en las proximidades de la cerca del
parque de los niños. Cuando tenga que darle la vuelta a su carro respete el prado de los vecinos.
SALIDAS DE EMERGENCIA EN CASOS DE INCENDIO O SIMULACRO DE INCENDIO: Salga
del edificio por el camino indicado por su professor o por el mapa que se encuentra en la pared. No busque
a sus niños en la Guardería. Los profesores, los voluntarios y el personal de la iglesia se encargarán de ellos.
Adultos que se encuentren en la reunión en el Hancock Room y en la biblioteca irán a la Guardería y al
Cuarto de Niños de 2 años y para ayudar a sacar los niños. Permanezca afuera hasta recibir permiso de
regresar al edificio.
BAÑOS (Toilets): Los baños se encuentran cerca de la entrada de La Casa de los Niños, en la parte de
atrás de La Casa de los Niños, al lado de la Guardería en el Toddler Room y en la parte de atrás del
santuario en el cuarto de La Novia (Bride’s Room). Están indicados con “W” (women) para mujeres y con
“M” (men) para hombres en los mapas de las páginas 12 y 13.
TELEFONO: Para sus llamadas locales use el teléfono en la cocina.
CANCELACION DE CLASES POR CAUSA DE MAL TIEMPO: Su maestro o sus colegas le avisarán
si las clases se cancelan. Esto ocurre si Hitchcock Nursery School (Escuela Infantil) y la Guardería (Childcare) están cerradas o si las escuelas públicas de Edgemont, Greenburg (Hartsdale) o Scarsdale cierran o
abren dos horas mas tarde. Para mayor información conéctese con www.1039WFAS.com o
www.AM1230WFAS.com o el canal (cable) 77 en su TV (Scarsdale solamente). El parqueo es limitado
después de una nevada; favor de combinar el transporte con varios alumnos.
CARTERA: Vigile su cartera y guárdela consigo siempre.
OBJETOS PERDIDOS: Artículos de valor como llaves, monederos y carteras serán depositados en la
oficina de la iglesia Hitchcock (914 723-3311). Otros objetos serán guardados en el escaparate de Living in
America en la Casa de los Niños de abajo.
PRIMEROS AUXILIOS: La caja de primeros auxilios se encuentra en la oficina de la iglesia.
PROGRAMAS: Usted es siempre bienvenido a participar en cualquier programa que se presente en
Hitchcock u otra iglesia: recital de órgano, concierto, conferencia, etc.
CAMBIO DE CLASE: A veces un alumno encuentra que su clase está demasiado fácil o difícil y prefiere
cambiarla. Si ésto ocurre o decide retirarse de la clase por favor avise en la oficina, a su maestra o a un/a
compañero/a de clase así Living in America podrá llevar una cuenta correcta de las inscripciones.
AVISOS ESPECIALES: Estos avisos y las hojas con información con temas para discutir estarán en la
mesa para el café. Por favor léalos. Si encuentra varias copias del mismo aviso llévese una.
BOCADITOS: Los estudiantes tomarán su turno y traerán bocaditos (frutas, galletas, pasteles,alimentos
nativos tradicionales) para acompañar el café o té de la mañana. Esperamos que lo haga por lo menos dos
veces al año. Regístrese en la lista que se encuentra en la mesa del café.

Información Para Voluntarias En La Guardería (Childcare)
Para Todos Los Alumnos 2014 – 2015
TODOS LOS ALUMNOS DEBEN AYUDAR EN LA GUARDERIA: Todos los estudiantes se turnan
ayudando a los maestros en la Guardería para facilitar este servicio a las personas que lo necesiten. Cada
clase contribuirá con voluntarias 4 veces al año. Además las madres que tienen hijos en la Guardería
(Childcare) deberán ayudar el primer día y posiblemente también los días de fiesta de Navidad y Año
Nuevo.
Una conferencia con las madres que utilizarán la Guardería (Childcare) tendrá lugar después del día de
inscripción y antes del primer día de clase.
Cada vez que una clase tiene su turno para cuidar los niños en la Guardería. la clase tiene que decidir de
antemano quienes trabajarán como voluntarias. Cualquier problema con la Guardería debe ser reportado a
alguien en el escritorio del registro o a uno de los profesores.
Los jueves por la mañana quienes registren los niños en la Guardería serán responsables por lo siguiente:
● Inscripciones en el escritorio de la Guardería de 9:15 a 9:30 AM
● Cobrar $20 por cada niño o $25 por familia si hay dos o más niños.
● Asignar voluntarias al Cuarto de niños menores de 2 años (2’s) y al Cuarto de niños mayores de
2 años (Toddlers)
.Asignar los niños a su lugar apropiado.
1- Cuarto de niños de 2 años (Toddlers) corresponde a niños de 6 meses a 2 años. Limite 12 niños.
2- Cuarto de niños mayores de dos años (2’s Room), (detrás del escenario, arriba). Limite 12 niños.
VOLUNTARIAS EN LA GUARDERIA (CHILDCARE):

El día que les toque ayudar lleguen a mas tardar a las 9:15 AM

Vayan enseguida al lugar asignado para prestar sus servicios. Se necesitan voluntarias en el Cuarto
de niños menores de 2 años (2’s Room) y en el Cuarto de niños mayores de 2 años (Toddlers). Las
madres pueden decidir si quieren servir en el lugar donde están sus niños o en el otro cuarto.

Si hay suficiente ayuda en la guarderia esa mañana puede ir a su clase con el permiso de la maestra..

Procure ser una buena voluntaria y ayude a poner todo en orden.

Cuarto niños menores de 2 años. (Toddlers)


Alce los bebes y consuélelos para que no lloren.
Distráigalos con un juguete u otra actividad.
Cuarto de niños mayores de 2 años.(2’s Room)




Asista en el programa de actividades y en organizar los niños.
Lleve a los niños al baño cuando lo necesiten. (Avise a la maestra cuando salga del cuarto y con
quién).
Explique las indicaciones de la maestra a los niños si ellos no entienden su inglés.
Vigile constantemente a los niños cuando juegan con el equipo del gimnasio.
INSTRUCCIONES PARA LAS MADRES QUE USAN EL JARDIN INFANTIL

Registre su niño de 9:15 a 9:30 A. La inscripción cierra a las 9:30 cuando empiezan las actividades
con los estudiantes. La inscripción en la Guardería se limita a los primeros 24 niños. Las
madres que lleguen cuando el cupo esté complete, no podrán dejar a sus niños en el Jardín Infantil.

Pague $20 por un niño o $25 por familia si son dos niños o más. (No se cobrará por los niños si la
madre trabaja de voluntaria este mismo día). Por favor llame a Diane Gismond 914-723-9286 o

Traiga pañales y toallitas para cambiar a los niños; biberones, chupetas o tacitas para los bebés, (en
2’s Room) zapatos y medias si ya caminan y ropa para jugar afuera para los niños mayores. Ponga
el nombre de su niño en su ropa y en todas sus cosas.

En la espalda de su niño ponga su nombre y llévelo al lugar asignado.
-
Preséntese a la maestra quien esté encargada de su niño.
-
Si Ud. sale del edificio de Hitchcock durante el tiempo de las clases deje su nombre y número de
teléfono celular con los maestros de la Guardería (Childcare) en el cuarto donde esté su niño.
-
Las madres se quedarán con sus bebés hasta que su bebé esté contento o hasta que la maestra de la
Guardería (Childcare) sugiera que se vaya. Luego siga a su clase. Si muchas madres se quedan con
sus hijos habrá demasiado alboroto. Si su niño llora mucho le avisaremos.

Se servirán refrescos en cada cuarto; las madres decidirán el tipo de refresco en la reunión al
principio del año.

RECOJA A SU NIÑO A LAS 11:30 AM Y SALGA ENSEGUIDA DEL CUARTO después de
darle las gracias a las voluntarias o a las encargadas de la Guardería (Childcare), (Debe terminar su
clase unos minutos antes de las 11:30 para llegar a tiempo). Vigile a su niño y tenga cuidado con
los obstáculos a su alrededor, como vasijas con agua caliente, tableros, roperos, sillas de las cuales
los niños se pueden caer y puertas que dan a la calle.

Some students like to meet American women by joining them in volunteer activities. You are welcome
anytime at any of the following activities, most of them at Hitchcock Church. Your teacher can give you
more information.
