All programs are designed for both CA students and non-CA students. We have enrolled students from Canada, China, France, India, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and all over Japan. Students must be at least 5 years old by September 30, 2014. With unique personalities, backgrounds and talents, they are placed according to the position that best fits their experience and knowledge. Over 75% of our staff is CPR certified, others trained in CPR/First Aid, and our low studentstaff ratio allows constant supervision to provide a safe environment to enhance involvement and learning. Our Location Canadian Academy is conveniently located on Rokko Island, an artificial island in the port city of Kobe, Japan. Please visit the Rokko Island City site for information on our school’s immediate environment. Our Facility Most Middle and High school courses will be held in the main building, and almost all classes for Elementary students will be held in ELAC (Early Learning and Activities Center). Facilities including the cafeteria, computer labs, main theater, P&G Black Box Theater, studios, Lilly Field Nestle Field and gymnasiums will be shared by all. Accommodation Students and their families traveling from afar can receive special discount from Hotel Plaza Kobe. Please ask for more detail. -1- ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (current KA - Gr. 5) (Student must be at least 5 years old by September 30, 2014) A popular offering at CA for almost three decades, the Elementary School Summer program is a full-day program from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for students currently enrolled in KA through 5th grade. You may sign up your child for one, two, three, or four weeks, whatever fits your family's schedule best! * * * * * * * * * * KA & KB • Focus on literacy, numeracy, and social skills • Special classes: Tech Skills, Music, Art, PE and Games • Activities & field trips with the older students Grades 1 ~ 5 • Language Arts, Math, Tech Skills, Music, Art, PE and Games • Weekly Activity Days • The very popular overnight camping trip to Green Echo is an exciting option for the fifth week for grades 3 - 8! • Current Grade 5 students may take ES and/or MS courses. * * * * * * * * * * Some Information & Requests… First Monday Please meet in the ELAC Gym at 9:00 AM. Each teacher/assistant will collect their students and proceed to their class. Supervision in the morning Summer School hours are from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Your child is welcome to come anytime after 8:45 each morning. Please do not send your child to school before 8:45. Absences Please notify the school (078) 857-0100 or email <[email protected]> by 9:00 AM in case of your child’s absence from Summer School, or when s/he will be late. We endeavor to complete our attendance check by 9:15 every morning and phone the homes of children who are not accounted for. If your child is late or absent, your phoning us will be a big help. Pickup Please either pick up your child at or shortly after 3:00 PM or instruct him/her to return home soon after school finishes. We do NOT provide playground/gym supervision after the end of the school day at 3:00 PM. All kindergarten students must be picked up by a parent unless notified in advance. Field Trips & Activity Day Field Trip, Activity Days, 3-day camping trip to Green Echo. Field Trip schedule may change without notice. Please have your child wear the Summer School T-shirt. -2- T-Shirt Please remember to have your child wear his/her Summer School T- shirt on Activity Days and field trip day. This increases the safety of all as it makes it much easier for our staff to keep their eyes on “our kids”. Please make sure your child’s name is clearly written. We all have the same T-shirts! Supplies Please send the following items, with every piece labeled with your child’s name. Children will have a cubby space to keep their belongings in. * Clean indoor gym shoes (NO sandals) * A hat or cap / sun screen * A bottle of water and a change of shirt * Healthy snack (Fresh and dried fruits, vegetables, cheese, crackers, small onigiri are good choices. Candies, chocolate, sugary/greasy snack are not.) * Complete change of clothes for kindergarten students *Students applying for the KA class must be at least five (5) years old by September 30, 2014. *Please be sure to supply us with correct information regarding your child. Incorrect personal data on your child may void insurance coverage in case of an accident or health problem associated with attending Summer School at CA. Canadian Academy assumes no responsibility for situations in which incorrect data has been supplied by parents. *Please make sure your email address is clearly written. We will be sending you information via email. Summer school tuition: * On or before the date of the Summer School Application deadline (Monday, May 26, 2014): Full refund of all tuition fees. * By one week or more prior to the start of the first week(s) being canceled: 80% refund of tuition fees. * By six (6) days or less prior to the start of the first week(s) being canceled: 50% refund of tuition fees. * During a week registered for or after the final day of the week(s) registered for: No refund of tuition fees for such week(s). II. Optional Overnight Camping Trip to Green Echo Kasagata: * Refunds for cancellation of the optional overnight camping trip fees are as follows: After the deadline has passed but before the weekend prior to departure, 50% refund. No refund for cancellation on the weekend prior to departure, the day of departure, or anytime thereafter. III. Typhoon, earthquake, or other “acts of God”: * No refund for any summer-school-related fees in the case of cancellation of school and/or of activities due to typhoon, earthquake, or other extreme events beyond the control of summer school staff. This includes cancellation of school due to epidemic outbreaks or any other government mandated closures. * In case of school closure, we will announce it on our school website http://www.canacad.ac.jp/ IV. Finally: Because there is no entrance exam or interview, Canadian Academy reserves the right to reject the application, even after the start of summer school, of any student who is unable to function at an age-appropriate level in the English language, and/or whose behavior is consistently inappropriate. Any student asked to leave the summer school program based on circumstances covered in the aforementioned will receive 80% tuition refund for any week(s) he/she is enrolled in that follow the week in which he/she is asked to leave; no tuition refund for the week in which he/she is asked to leave.
